Description: Fighting an ugly custody battle with an artistic tenant who has little regard for the strict rules of their progressive Cleveland suburb, a straitlaced family woman who is seeking to adopt a baby becomes obsessed with exposing the tenant’s past, only to trigger devastating consequences for both of their families.
About the Author: Celeste Ng’s writing draws on the diverse influences of her life: her immigrant parents, her Midwestern upbringing, her experiences in higher education, and her lifelong love of literature. These are the seeds of themes often found in her work: family relationships and generational cycles, questions from the past both unasked and unanswered, and the personal tragedies often hidden within contemporary life. Ng is particularly deft in addressing issues of race, multiculturalism, and Asian/Asian American identity; weaving them seamlessly into the broader scope of her work.
