Old Bridge, NJ – Dec. 8, 2016 – The Old Bridge Public Library will offer the following holiday- themed programs for both children and adults this month:

Effective Charitable Giving: Thurs. Dec. 15th at 7pm: Many people donate to charities at the end of the year, but are often unaware of how effective those donations are.  Boris Yakubchik, a member of the effective altruist movement, shares his tips for effective charitable giving.  Attendees will learn about valuable resources to search for the best charities and discover how to maximize the impact of charitable donations for local or global good. Yakubchik left an Educational Psychology Ph.D. program at Rutgers University in order to “earn to give” as much as possible, and now donates 10% of his income to the most cost-effective charities.

American Sewing Guild: Holiday Bottle Bag: Sat. Dec. 17th at 1pm: The American Sewing Guild will host an open workshop where patrons can work on their own sewing projects or learn how to make a holiday gift bottle bag.  Attendees must bring their own supplies for all projects.  Holiday gift bottle bag supplies include: holiday-themed material, thread, scissors, and a sewing machine. For more information, contact Regina Hyatt of the ASG at 732-804-3036.

Ebenezer Scrooge Unbound: Sun. Dec. 18th at 2pm: The story of Ebenezer Scrooge, Jacob Marley, and Tiny Tim comes to life in a fresh and exciting way with a twist of science fiction and time-travel added to the mix.  Members of the Garden State Speculative Fiction Writers will perform their imaginative retelling of this classic tale.

Let it Snow: Make Your Own Snow globe: Mon. Dec. 19th at 7pm: Kids in grades 6-12 are invited to the Library to make their own snow globe, either for themselves to keep or to give as a holiday gift.
