Old Bridge, NJ – Sept. 9, 2019 – The Old Bridge Public Library will offer unique programs on topics ranging from the role of Sandy Hook in the Revolutionary War to the meaning of astrology to the return of the Crawley family from Downton Abbey. All Library programs are free and open to the public; registration is required where noted.
Downton Abbey High Tea and Millinery Madness: Wed. September 18th @2pm. Downton Abbey fans are invited for “high tea” to celebrate the return of the Crawley family, their servants and the drama that surrounds them in anticipation of the release of the feature film. Attendees will feel like British aristocrats as they design their own percher hat, enjoy light refreshments, and reminisce about their favorite Downton Abbey moments. Sandy Hook and the Bayshore During the Revolutionary War: Sun. September 22nd @2pm. Route 36 through Atlantic Highlands, Highlands, Middletown and Sea Bright was a Revolutionary War military frontier line that separated the Patriot interior from British-held Sandy Hook and Raritan Bay. Noted historian Michael Adelberg, author of “The American Revolution In Monmouth County” and three other books, will present a lecture about the importance of the area during the war. With the British anchored in Sandy Hook Bay and using the Hook as a base of operations, the Highlands found itself a frontier in the earliest days of the war. Adelberg’s essays on the American Revolution have appeared in many scholarly publications including The Journal of Military of History and The Journal of the Early Republic, and his research has been recognized by the New Jersey Historical Commission, the New Jersey Studies Academic Alliance, and the David Library of the American Revolution.
Finding Meaning in Astrology: Wed. September 25th @7pm. Rutgers University Professor Dr. Sesh Venugopal will explore how astrology can play a key role in determining why we exist. His pragmatic and spiritual insights helped create a horoscope interpretation program which he will discuss during the session. Dr. Venugopal is also an author and lecturer, and earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Rutgers and his Bachelor’s of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
The Old Bridge Public Library has consistently been voted one of the three Best Public Libraries in Middlesex County by the readers of the Home News Tribune.
