Library Assistant 1: Central Branch / Passport Agent
$16.63 per hour: 29.5 Hours Bi-weekly
The Old Bridge Public Library seeks a part-time Library Assistant I / Passport Agent to work principally at the Central Branch. The successful candidate must enjoy working with people and be able to interact pleasantly and effectively with customers and staff. Enthusiasm, dependability, good attention to detail, and flexibility are essential.
Proficiency in verbal and written communication in the English language is required. Working knowledge of a second language is desirable.
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required; knowledge of office procedures, proper telephone etiquette and a variety of office equipment are essential.
The successful candidate for this position must be available to work the following schedule:
- Mondays 5:30pm – 9:00pm
- Tuesdays 5:30pm – 9:00pm
- Thursdays 5:30pm – 9:00pm
- alternate Saturdays 10:00am – 2:00pm
- and alternate Sundays 11:30pm – 4:30pm
- plus on call hours as needed

Candidates that meet or exceed the basic criteria for this position (based on experience) may be scheduled for an interview. The Old Bridge Public Library has several part-time Library Page positions available. The main responsibilities of the position will be shelving books and other library materials and ensuring that all areas of the Library are neat and orderly.
Applicants must be courteous, motivated, and willing to learn the use of new or unfamiliar equipment. Attention to detail and organization skills will be required. Computer skills are a plus.
This position requires extensive standing and walking, and must be able to lift and carry, bend and twist, push and pull. Candidates for this position must be willing to work 10–15 hours per week including evenings and weekends, per the Library’s needs. Preference in hiring will be given to residents of Old Bridge Township if all other qualifications are deemed equal.
